We’re back!  And you won’t believe the nightmare reason why.

We’re back and boy did we miss you! Last night, my 5-year-old son Max, woke up from a terrible nightmare crying. I ran down to his room and asked him if he was ok and he told me about the dream he’d had. He said there were creatures from an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming to get him. Here was the thing. Max hasn’t really been watching TV lately so I was confused as to why he would suddenly be having this dream. I thought back in my head and remembered that we had watched and episode like this…two weeks ago. I have no idea what brought these scary images into his head now but it got me and my wife talking. Max likes watching/reading things that could be scary. He enjoys monsters of all kinds and likes the notion of creatures. The plain fact is I do too. When we watch TV together I like the shows about monsters, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Trollhunters. I never press him to watch them but I am always happy when that’s what he chooses. They are just geared a little more towards grown-ups and kids and not just kids. Maybe he got his desire to watch these shows from me, or maybe he just came by It honestly, who knows. Either way it has become a double edge sword. My wife wants to move him away from the monsters and creatures and back towards things like Hey Dougie and Super Why(both great shows), whereas I am more willing to let him try what he wants, within reason. Yes, he had a dream that was the result of watching a show, but it was weeks after the fact and that got me thinking about a kids mind and that anything can get stuck in there and become scary. Do your kids like scary things? If so do they have nightmares or get frightened because of them? Tell us what you think and about your experience with shows that might have scared your kids. We want to hear from you!
